Virtuosity and Poetry

Tuesday, June 9

Virtuosity and poetry opens the festival with a program of wide ranging duos on ranging from the most expressive to the most impressive. The evening concludes with Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 10, one of his most lyrical and expansive chamber works. An intimate concert that highlights both personal voices and the most sensitive collaborations.

This program brings together music shaped by cultural exchange and personal journeys. Nico Muhly’s Stranger offers a beautiful reflection for tenor and string quartet. Brahms’s Piano Quartet in G minor anchors the evening. Between Worlds pairs familiar masterworks with contemporary voices in a very rich and compelling program

Folk traditions, chamber music favorites, and a brand new world premier come together in this wide-ranging final concert. Irish song settings by Beethoven and Rebecca Clarke highlight the expressive connection between melody and text, followed by a cello-quartet arrangement of Rachmaninoff that draws out the instrument’s darker, more resonant character. After intermission, a new cello quartet by Tessa Lark receives its world premiere Mendelssohn’s Octet will end the program, a cornerstone of the chamber music repertoire and a fitting grand finale to DCMF 2026.
